I love some Antwerp Six action, but Dries men’s collections are too colourful for me to wear.

I like how you say "mincing" in your lastest blog post when your voice in the barbican video is the most feminine post-puberty voice ever and you still think your brutal and urban in your flurry shoes and £3000 jacket.

thoughts on clothing made in china?

I don’t mind where my clothing is made, unless it’s an expensive “designer” piece then I expect it to be be made in W Europe/USA/Japan. A lot of designer stuff is actually made in China, though, then sent to Italy for “finishing” - i.e. the attachment of a fictitious “made in Italy” label

At work yesterday I realised that, from my desk, I can see the school I attended aged 7 to 17. It’s not particularly surprising, given that I went to school in West London and our office, high up with its floor-to-ceiling windows, has a panoramic view over this joyless part of the capital. It struck me as odd, though, that in the 2.5 years I have been in my job I’d never noticed before. It was a jolt. Not because the distinctive red brick structure is of any interest or importance in its own right, but because of the associations it holds for me. I had a terrible time at school and it is in spite of - not because of - it that I have reached the point I’m at today (albeit via a fully-blown nervous breakdown at university). It feels like an intrusion being able to see this dreadful institution from the job I have, which is such a comprehensive, wonderful, refreshing rejection of everything that school imposed upon me. I shall resolve to look out of the window no more. Maybe I’ll get more done. It’s a shame, though. I quite enjoyed lazily half-watching the planes flying into Heathrow while pondering an article. It’s like the arrow in the FedEx logo: you can’t “un-see” it once you’ve seen it.

I have anxiety dreams about school or university almost every night, but yesterday I had one of the most vivid nightmares I’ve experienced in a while. I was back at school, but the place was burning down in the most catastrophic and graphic way imaginable, with victims left, right and centre. There was no sense of joy or vindication in this image, though: it was pure horror and, as tends to be the case after a particularly unpleasant dream, I spent most of today shell-shocked that my subconscious is able to conjure up such violent imagery in high definition. It would be easy to do an amateur psychoanalysis job on this, but if my long (and on-going) battle with depression has taught me one thing it’s that mind-related matters are never as clear-cut as you want them to be.

In other news, my desire for a pair of black Vibram FiveFingers, which has been gently simmering for a while, is fast approaching boiling point. I can’t decide if this is predictable hipster behaviour (trying to make fashion capital out of something which is almost universally regarded as being utterly hideous) – or if it’s yet another thing to discuss with my therapist.
